First of all I am a NEWB
I am actually surprised how limited the use of this site has been. I hope to get some response and feedback but based on the views and responses of other posts i am not holding my breath

I am building a 79 (maybe 80 model year) mustang to tun a 1/4 mile flat asphalt track. I think there might be 3-5 degrees of banking maybe.
Here is the rough plan. I am not sure on everything because there is a new owner with new rules which have yet to be released. I ran this track before about 6 years ago but with a FWD honda CRX. I had a very limited budget (spent like 1000 the whole year including buying the car) and so I was not really competitve and would usually end up in the bottom 3 out of 12 or so.
So based on not having a rulebook yet I am initially going conservative.

79 mustang
2300 engine runs ok may rebuild depending on compression
d port head (may already have need to check)
mild cam change (heard ranger 2300 cams are good for small tracks)
new shocks bushings and ball joints
fuel cell
kirkey seat
5pt harness
14 race wheels and falken azenis tires (must have dot tires)
a ton more just not sure what to list

i currently have about a 2700 budget not including car which I have
any tips or ideas welcome
I will post pics and updates when I start building the car.

Well, a little late but still before racing season gets into full swing. Get the basics done first, once you have the roll cage, the chassis tuned with good tires dive into the more critical elements. Pretty much the same as any other race car.

I don't think there will be much of a change for the class IMO. CT had a fairly good spread of articles on a mini-stock 'city boy' car build. Since I started with my sister I have always known these rigs as short-trackers, kool but an expensive class even on a budget.

Does the rulebook say you need to stick to certain series of tires?
