I'm currently running a Ford 302 with a C4 auto ans 4.30 rear on a 1/3 mile dirt track. For next season I'm planning on switching to a 351 and can't figure out exactly what I should do for a transmission. I'm running in 2nd with the C4 and hitting a max rpm of 6100. 2nd gear in the C4 is 1.46 with the 4.30 rear gives me a 6.28 overall ratio. I plan on running the 1/3 mile track along with occasionally running a 4/10 mile track with this car and I'm not sure exactly what direction to go with the gearing when switching to the 351. The 4.30 rear gear is the largest that will fit in the 8.8 rear without modification as well. Any input would be appreciated.

I would find out where your peak torque is at on the 351 it should be making a bunch more torque then the 302. If the C-4 is in good working order, try gearing up or down your final drive gear ratio. For the 4/10 mile track. I think you may not need to so much gear. Possibly a 4:00 or 3:90 gear. It's also possible you won't have to spin the 351 so high.
