Hello Everyone, I run a Ford Thunderbird out at my local track and I need some transmission help. My problem is that there isn't enough gear in the low gear and the next selection up is regular drive, which is 1st,2nd,and 3rd gear, but 3rd gear is too steep for my track. Is there any way I can stop my transmission from shifting into 3rd, because I think running only 2nd gear would put me right where I need to be on RPMs. Thanks in advance. KBridges63

Hello
I also run a Thunderbird. What year??
For the AOD. This is what you do: Start in 1, shift up to D then back to 1 This will hold 2nd.
I was doing over 6000rpm. NP
I swapped to A C4, mid last season In my factory stock class I must run a 2bbl. factory carb. TV cable system kinda tough with a carb.
I run a 90's Thunderbird: 351W, C4 3.90 open rear. 1/2 mile asphalt

Well its a 90 Thunderbird, suspension is all stock and what not, but it has a 302 out of a mustang, i think. Saturday night its started breaking up when I got close to 6,000 rpms, so I'll have a little tuning to do. Thanks for your help

Hi
I run a Old Ford 2bbl. (1.23)
You need more info on your engine. Year, casting number?
This will tell you where you are starting at.
What gear do you have?

Hi
You prob. have 3.27 gears, in a 7.5" housing. I have 3.73's & 4.10's in a couple of 7.5" housings.
The 3.90's are in a 8.8 housing.

What do you run for front suspension. I was rolling the right front really bad, and everyone was telling me to get a high performance strut for the right front. I can't seem to find any online

Hi
Still working on shocks. Add some air to RF What springs & sway bar do you have?
I have 600lb RF & 550 LF + 1 3/8" front sway bar. Going to lower on front springs.(450-500ish)
Try to get a SC front sway bar. Older the better. an 89 had a 1.20 front bar.

Hi
Same car I started with.
This means you have a 1.10 front sway bar. try to get some SC front springs. later V8 springs also work.
You can see most of my set-up under General Tech - Asphalt racing - Thunderbird set-up.
How STOCK do you have to keep your car?

just curious... if everybody knows the AOD throttle valve cable requires the same or similar cable ratio bracket as the 700 R4 in gm's uses .. or the linkage angle to pull ratio will be wrong...
many times the original transmission hook up part of the throttle lever pulls the TV cable too far.. this changes the adjustment when you go wide open throttle.. at that point the line pressure is to low and the shift points are all messed up...
i wonder.. if running an AOD-E might be useful... as default with all the solenoids off is usually second gear.. you could wire a push button to activate the proper shift solenoids for first only... depress the button.. you get first.. let go.. you get second.. hmm... probably to much weight.. and rotating mass..

Hi
This is why I went back to the C4. More suited for circle track racing.
If you can stay with the FI, the cable should work.
I how-ever MUST run a 2bbl. carb. So No proper TV cable upper bracket. I made one from 2 brackets. Worked, But not perfect.
