Hi

Well better flowing cast iron intake & heads.

I could use a cam with stock lift & 235 duration, hydraulic non-roller.
(I race on a semi flat 1/2 mile asphalt track)

A carb. that flows 500cfm.

Racing shocks.

some help with suspension. Springs & sway bar.
install & numbers.

Without knowing the rules in your particular class, it's difficult to tell if these things are allowed.

1) port matching intake/exhaust
2) undercut valve stems
3) stiffer valve springs
4) titanium retainers and valve locks
5) extrude-a-hone heads and manifolds
6) carb spacers
7) carb mods
8) multi disc clutch
9 decking compression height
10) headers and open exhaust
These are just some things you might want to answer.

Hi

1) No port matching allowed
2) No undercut valves
3) Valve springs match cam.
4) done by engine builder
6) 1" carb spacer max.
7) factory stock carb or Holley 7448
8) auto's only! (C-4)
9) 8.5 compression only!
10)Factory Manifolds.
I run Fox exhaust manifold & open pipes.

A few more questions, you answered 1) to 5)
6) what spacer are you running,,, aluminum OEM stock?
7) What jets, 61's with the 8.5 power valve and 30cc pump?
8) and 9) answered
10) how big are the pipes?
new question, are you still running the choke?

Hi

6) I have an old factory twin hole, 3/4" spacer.
(hood clearance a problem.) I have a 1" open spacer. But car doesn't run as well with it.
7) The jets are like 72's(Ford jets) 8.5 power valve
stock accel pump(1963 Ford 2100 carb. 1.23v)
10) The openings in the manifolds are 2 1/8in.
I have 2 1/2in" pipes. No mufflers
11) No choke, Must have stock choke horn.

This engine does run hot, 220-230*
peaking just over 6000rpm.

I have a 1.33v Ford 2100(1963). Thinking 73 holley jets, 3.5 power valve & stock accel pump.

I burn lower carb gasket. What can I fill the egr hole with? liquid steel?

Hi Tess, Let's go over this step by step OK.
1) I ran a few syms on your combo and guessed at your static CR being near or at 8.5 to 1
2) We have to trick your engine into believing there is more carb on top,,, by increasing plenum volume, we accomplish that.
Take your 2 hole gasket to a woodworking shop and get a 2 hole spacer made out of ash or oak plywood, 1" thick.
You want to isolate/insulate the carb from conducted engine heat. Wood is the best and better than plastic,,, aluminum is the worst.
3) Get Holley 72 jets, better quality, less slobber,,, To arrive at a power valve number connect a vacuum gauge to MANIFOLD vacuum, divide the number you get in half and that should be close.
4) Get rid of the choke butterfly and shaft,,, it's a restriction.
5) Get a 50cc Reo or Holley accelerator pump,,, set the lever at wide open throttle so you still have .015" clearance,,, you set this with the screw that has a spring aound it.
6) I'd go 3" for better control over flow reversion on exhaust pulses,,, the bigger the dam the better.
Do this,,, get some shoe white nurses use to doll up their shoes,,, paint a white line the length of your exhaust,,, run the car one heat and see where the white paint turns brown from heat,,, cut the pipe here for tuned exhaust.
7) Do all this and see how your engine responds,,,
Ohh, lift the back of your hood slightly for clearance issues and also to evacuate engine heat.
The windshield base is a low pressure area and ideal for routing air intake snorkel, or run ram air from your grille with dryer ducting (the aluminum kind),,, if your class rules allow such a mod.
8) Juggling cam advance/retard can come later,,, valve eventing is critical to optimize your power band, after you do ALL the above mods,,, we'll come back to dot "I's" and cross "T's".
9) You don't need or want a 3.5 PV,,, unless you're running a huffer, which you're not.
Hope that helps you out some.

Almost forgot,,, get rid of the EGR. NO engine likes breathing oily fumes,,, run a breather cap on each rocker cover.

I thought you might like a vid of an econo engine I just built.

Click on pic to see Vid

Hello

I will look into the spacer. I can get a 4 to 2.
late models use them.
The 1.23 uses the larger Ford jets.
The jet hole sizes are also different.

I have No Butterfly's or shafts.
Don't know if the larger accel pump will fit the Ford carb.

2 1/2" max pipe size. No cross overs.

I have the hood raised already. clearance issues.

Winter here, So engine in out right now.

Pretty hard to lead by following,,, 4 into 2 would not be my first choice.
Best to go with a Holley carb, then everything will fit.
Where are you located?

Hi

The Holley carb has the same pattern as the Ford carb.

Saw a spacer in DAY MOTOR SPORTS
Canton 85-040. They are Phenolic.

I live between Buffalo & Niagara Falls, NY
We are currently getting a small snow storm. About
5" by morning.

Yes, of course the Holley bolt pattern is the same but my point is that the Holley lends itself to mods better.
Phenolic is a step in the right direction,,, run a coil of fuel line through a cool can filled with ice. Cold fuel is denser and has more "volume" than hot fuel.
You need to be receptive to every trick and advantage available to you. I still don't know your static CR, combustion chamber volume, dish cc in your piston, cam LSA, cam ICL, lift, duration, advanced or retarded, rear end gears, weight of car, max RPM you're pulling.
Need info.

The best place would be your local Chevrolet dealer, you can get all the parts you REALLY NEED there.
Actually I watched it more than once, back when it was worth watching!!!

Hi

I don't think a Chevy dealer can help me with my suspension. Brakes, throttle response ...

What springs?, sway bar? adjustments ...
