We've got a Monte Carlo metric chassis we are putting together for a 1/4 mile banked track and are learning as we go. The car has to use 8" wide wheels, stock control arms, stock shock location, and a GM rear.
When it comes to what size spring to run on the 4 corners of the car, and what size tires to buy and how much stagger to put in them though we are lost. The car has ran on dirt before so we also need to get a sway bar for it, what size and what kind of cars should we be searching the yards for?
The car currently has a 1000#RF, 900#LF, and the rears are unknown.

sorry i need some more info. What frame heights can you have? How heavy is the car and what are the left and rear weight percentages? are you allowed to have adjustable spacers above springs??

I'm working on getting a set of scales. Frame height has to be 6", minimum 3,200 lbs, no more than 56% left side weight. We can have jack bolts in the rear only, nothing at all in front.

ok here is what i run. Keep in mind i run 3/8 oval and my car is 3300 lbs. The 1/4 mile guys run our track with only a gear change and they are fast. lf 900, rf 1050, lr 250, rr 200. sway bar is 1 inch(.990") factory bar. rear springs are 11" tall and fronts are 9 1/2" tall. I have adjustable spacers above front springs. the only way you can see them is if you remove the spring. You may not be able to get to your 6" frame height in the rear unless you have short tires or load bolts with a bucket for the spring to fit up inside of.

weights are as follows: total 3350 left 55.3% cross 51.6% rear 48.6%
this is with driver in car, 5 gal of fuel(amount i run every race with) and nuetral sway bar. This puts me in the middle of the pack where I run. It would probably be a good starting point and you can adjust to the way it handles and the way you drive it.

With having to run a DOT tire, in order to make it easier to get stagger in the car should I use something like a 235-75-15 on the rights and 235-70-15 on the lefts? Will a 235 fit on a 8" racing wheel? One inch stagger on front and rear?
What about toe? I've always hear 1/8" out is the best place to start.

For years and years I saw guys using Mastercrafts, Firestone Firehawks, and Firestone Indy 500s but the very last time I went to the track all but one car was using Goodyear Eagles that had the tread shaved down. What do you think about a Z rated, uni-directional tire?

well I've never had to deal with street tires. We have to run goodyear short track specials. Before that we had to run hoosier commanche's. At our particular track we were dropping a few tenths off our lap times just from switching to the goodyears. I'm not sure if this spring combo will still work right with a tire that doesn't bite like a race rubber.
anyone out there know if this has a major impact on his set-up???
1/8 toe out is a good starting point
