The Starstruck Report-6/18/10 News and Notes
Hello friends and welcome again to another edition of the Starstruck Report. It was a very hot night at the track and hard to believe that we are truly almost at mid season. This week was double points and the next opportunity for such will be the August 13th races. These nights help set the tone for the points races as we move closer to September 3rd trophy presentation. Before we get to the action, I want to thank everyone that has joined The Starstruck Report group on facebook and there is still plenty of room for everyone who wants to join. There will be exclusive content each week before the races that will preview what's ahead in depth and how the points races are lining up and a few surprizes.
Ucar (25laps): The night started off with Ucar action with Shawn Hendricks (44) on the pole for this race. On the first attempt, Cory Lawrence spun in turn 2, which called the race back. On the second attempt to start the race, Daniel Shelton (99) was blackflagged for jumping the start. For the most part, this race stayed green for the duration. Andrew Condrey (36) brought his car into the pits on lap 9. Rusty Bennett (92) charged his way to the lead on lap 14. On lap 14, David Gonce (09) went in the pits. Champ Karts (20 laps): Jason Higgenbotham (44) started this race on the pole. On lap 4, Brad Davis (18) claimed the lead. Ricky Gum (29) rolled his kart over in turn two on lap 13. The karts set up for a cone restart and Davis (18) retained the lead. On lap 14, Davis (18) and Higgenbotham (44) get together just before turn 3 racing for the lead. Buzz Moore (11) became the leader as a result of this caution. Moore (11) lined up on the inside and held off a challenge from Randy Emory (00) on the outside. The second restart had the same results with Lockhart retaining the lead but caution was back out on lap 62 when Jeff Oakley (15) spun in turn 2. This was an interesting night with double points night. Now let's get to the weekly awards.
Performance of the week: Shayne Lockhart (LMS 95) made the outside lane work for him the entire race to claim his victory this week. This was a very dominating race car.
Tough Luck Ucar: Daniel Thomas (99) was blackflagged for jumping the start. It was hard to pick otherwise since there were no DNF's in this division.
Tough Luck Champ Karts: Brad Davis (18) and Jason Higgenbotham (44) will tie this week for wrecking while racing for the race lead.
Tough Luck Grand Stock: Donnie Newman (69) had his car off pace. He came into the race as the points leader and finished dead last in the division this week. I will cover how this affected him in the points in the mid week column.
Tough Luck Modfieds: Alan Purser (41) gets the nod this week. Two cautions. For the record, there were no DNF's in that division this week.
Attention drivers: As part of the new midweek column on facebook, I am looking to start a new section called voice of the drivers. In this section, you can email me a story at larrystarstruck@yahoo.com or on facebook. It can be about the last race, the race you won't forget, or your goals in the season. It will be printed in your own words. I think this would be a very entertaining way to get to know the drivers better. The only thing I ask is keep it clean since the Starstruck Report is a family column.
Get Well Wishes: The Starstruck Report would like to offer get well wishes to Henry Marano, owner and father of Shannon Marano's Late Model Sportsman car 6. H. Marano was hospitalized on friday with an abdominal aneurysm and from what I know, it's not life threating at this time. Marano is scheduled for surgery on Monday. Keep the family in your thoughts, prayers and blessings.
Looking ahead: In midweek, we will be looking at the changes in the points races as well as any voice of the driver stories that get shared. This all leads up to scout night next week. All scouts in full uniform get in free. Ucars (25 laps), Street Stock (50 laps) and Champ Karts (20 laps) will all see action in a night headlined by twin 50's for the late model sportsman. I want to thank everyone that reads every week and the drivers and crews who share their stories. That's all for now, I will see you at the races. *Larry Starstruck*
