i was wondering if anybody can give me some advice on looking for a a good solid 350 chevy block and a good cam to use on a 3/8 mile dirt track in a 85 monte carlo ss (street stock division) with a .40 overbore and engine must be a 9:1 compression ratio. im just getting started and just looking for any advice

Check the classified section on racing websites, Craigslist and local paper for a good used 4 bolt block near you then bore it out. Just make sure there is no sign of rust caused by water standing in it. As for the cam I like the solid lifter cams from speedwaymotors site. They list their cams based on what intake, carb, heads and RPM you run. PRC camshafts make nice power too, but I have had them fail during break-in if, I did'nt switch to low preasure valve springs and do atleast 3 times the break-in. No matter what cam you choose don't forget to use a good cam break-in additive in the oil.
