Visit the track's web site and pull down the rules and requirements or specs for the class that you want to run in.  Then go to track watch a couple of races and check out the cars and the way they are set up.  Meet with the track Technical Director and tell him what you want to do and review your understanding of the requirements with him.  The drivers and tech director will be more than willing to help because they want more competion at the track.
