i have a 1980 mustang pony car it has a esslinger 2300 in it my questions is at it will start and idle fine but when u give it a little gas it cuts out bad until it gets to about 3500 to 4000 rpm it will clear out  i was wondering if it is just the cam it is a 528 soild lift cam

it may be getting to much fuel. try leaning it down and or changing the cam on the throttle shaft that operates the acc. pump.

I had the same problem with mine...and the answer is too much fuel pressure.. the solution I found worked the best is a simple ball valve between the pump and the motor. This is nice cause you can adjust it for track conditions with the simple move of the valve.
