I have a 1997 chevy cavalier and this started last night racing. In the heat race my car runs fine no problems. But when it comes to the feature the car starts like crap and idles bad. Once it warms up it idles fine. On about lap 8 in the feature my car starts popping at around 6000 rpm's then i have no power when it pops. Also i have barely any oil presure when im done with the race. This happened a few weeks ago and we switched out alternators a few weeks ago and that doesnt seem to help out at all. I'm just wondering what might be causing the car to idle like crap and start popping and have no oil pressure.

it sounds to me like it is running out of fuel on the top end. do you run factory fuel injection or a carb, i would try an after market made for racing electric fuel pump.

i had the same problem with my car. For the popping replace the map sencer and the cooling sencer. now for the oil pressure you should trie an high volume oil pump. This mostly prevents the motor from blowing with an pump with high volume.I would no get these parta at atuo zone or advanced auto parts i would get it from napa or a shop like that. I would also like to know were you race if you dont mind telling us
