I have a wedge style dirt prostock and have some major cooling issues. the radiator sits low and with the big dirt style nose, air flow is restricted. If there is a big drop from thermostat housing to radiator will this cause an air pocket and cause flow problems? thanks.

Yes it will! Your best bet is to find a thermostat housing with the cap made in. Jegs and summit both sell them along with many other places. If the housing is higher that the radiator fill thats probably the problem. As for the air you can bring it in from underneath and cool better.

thanks for the reply. I figured that out a couple days ago. I've done some duct work and added a electric fan so we should be running much cooler when I get the therm. housing cap. first time in this new car, I had em' handled in the main and had to come off due to 260 degree temp. oh well thats racing!

Well there is a few things you can do. First what type of fan are you using? A good fan some times can make all the difference. Some like tu use the old 4-blade fans from old GMs. Personally I have had bad luck with them. Most of the time I use a large flex fan( not those skinny blade ones made for looks) and enough spacer to get the fan closer to the rad.

A good and tight shroud will help alot. The main thing is to get it to the outside edges of the radiator and within an inch of the blades(outer circumference). You want the fan to be about an inch into the shroud.

Mods don't have much area to work with so any ducting in the front will help as well.

Next what cap are you using? A 30-32# cap will raise the boiling point of the coolant and keep hot spots from destroying parts( hot spot ca reach 1500-2000* in a hurry) and keeps the coolant in the system so it can do its job.

What kind of pump are you using? Some cheaper replacement pumps have too much clearence between the impeller and the housing. I have even seen alot of pump that have loose impellers that spin on the shaft!

210* is ok...even 230-240* with a good cap will survive! If none of these ideas work let me know with some more info and I will try to help. Jr

my experience ""get rid of the restrictor in the housing the more water you can flow the better off you are.also increase rad cap to atleast #30psi,and the #1 reason i find w/ peoples heating problem is engine timing",if you are running a small pulley on the pump upsize it for more flow and i run the flex-lite plastic fan saves hp. and really pulls the air!! Hope you get the problem solved!!goodluck
