Hi,everyone. I have a question about v-twin motorcycle crankshafts that I wonder if anyone would respond to, even though it's not strictly racing . BMW boxer engines use a 180-degree crank that is (relatively) smooth in operation, with main forces cancelling each other out, leaving some rocking couple. Would a 90-degree v-2 such as Guzzi benefit from this design? What about the same q as applied to v-2 diesel engines? Both my Guzzi and the diesel engine vibrate something awful compared to the boxer BMW. The v-2 crankshaft is a 360-degree jobbie. To convert it to a BMW-style crank would involve skinned knuckles and lots of reworking. My guess is that if it was do-able, someone would have done it, but the Q still intrigues me. daishu-oz

The main vibration issues with those motors lies in the timing.
