Hey
I’m a dirt track racer. I race at a 3/8ths mile track. Personally, I race a stock 91 escort GT. The escorts are one of the most winningest cars at the track. Mine is a great car, and has won many races and championships!
But this isn’t about me. A friend races a 97 Cavalier with a 2.2 engine. Now I no a lot of tricks about car set up and things, but I no crap all about cavaliers. I said I would help if I could, so I’m just looking for some info and little tricks. Like I said, I no some car set up tricks, and a lot of the suspension and small stuff can work regardless of the car.
I guess what I’m looking for is a way to give the car and driver an edge on the competition.
Now the car must remain stock. rules state must have under 140 horse and 140 torque. You can’t do any performance mods or anything like that. You can swap parts, but it has to be from the same make and model. Like cavalier to cavalier. An example, the 96 escort GT (mazda 1.8 motor) came with a factory header! Escort GT to escort GT, so it’s legal! You can go on the edge, like an rx7 MAF, its still mazda and the techs can’t tell the difference, so it’s legal! Lol Or putting the isuzu 1.6 cams in a isuzu 1.8 (that might be backwards... i cant remember) is legal. impulse to impulse. Or on the edge, u can put quad 4 injectors in the isuzu. It’s kind of GM to GM so it’s not bad. And again, techs can’t tell, so it’s ok!
I guess that’s vary in depth, but you get the picture. Those are the kind of tricks I’m looking for… if any exist for a cavalier.
The racing season starts in May, but I figure the earlier I start looking, the more info I can get!

So, any ideas?
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

not sure about your track but if you can run with the pedal matted 99% of the time you can restrict the return fuel line to get more fuel into the cyl you have to play with it a bit I used vise grips so i could adjust it to track conditions. but it will load up when your sittin on the grid and run like crap at an idol but once you matt it your gone!!! JUST MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR OIL TILL YOU GET IT FINE TUNED CAUSE IT WILL WASH THE FUEL PAST THE RINGS AND THIN THE OIL IF YOU RESTRICT IT TO MUCH!!!! and after 3 roll overs i finally learned to inspect the right rear spindal and nut cause those are weak on the cavalier and they genraly break in the turn and well after the last one broke 2 barrel roll and 3 end over end rolls the car was totaled and i was very sore so I'd pull that right rear off every week and check it good hope this helps and good luck
