I race in a class in Delaware, Ontario. I use a 1980 Monte Carlo. Everything is basically stock but we car allowed spring upgrades and motor mods. My question is, what tire would be best for the class I run in. We run 250 lap races on a 1/2 mile. We can run anywhere from 215/70/15's to 235/70/15's....which I use. I've used Firestone Indy 500's but I keep blistering them really bad. What do you other races recommend? Thanks

Wow! 250 laps on a 1/2 mile, I gotta go there! I'll assume the track is dirt and you need to run DOT tires. You need a harder compound tire. The UTQA numbers can provide you with a rough guide. The higher the wear number, the harder the compound. Stay with tires that have a temp rating of "A". The Firehawk Indy 500 has a treadwear rating of 500, which is pretty high, but it has a temp rating of "B", which makes it unsuitable for racing. While there are many exceptions, this method will get you to a tire solution a lot quicker and cheaper than trial and error. Find out what tires are survivng races at your track and pick a candidate with an "A" temp rating. Then get a higher or lower treadwear rating based on your experience with that tire. There's about 2 dozen other things to consider, but this will get you in the right direction.
