I run a 1993 T-bird at a local black top track in the SS class. I have a push in the middle of the turn and can not get it out. I am the only one running this type of car. I have the factgory 7.5" independent rear end but could not keep the sway bar in the rear (I could not clear the fuel cell with out rasing the fuel cell up about 7 more inches) any help would be great. I have 3.25" of stager in the rear as well as a 500lb spring in the RR, my cross weight is currently set at 40%
my husband runs a ford fairmont and a mustang in ss but we run dirt. I'm not sure he can help but I'll ask.
Is your rear diff welded, open, or a posi?can you get enough front camber? if I remeber right, its a strut car, right?what are all of your other spring rates?how big is your front swaybar, and how big is it?
the rear gear is welded. It is a strut on the front but the set up is a spring over strur. the front sway bar is just over 1 1/8" diathe springs are as follows.LF 925RF 875FR 300RR 500 I have enough camber in the RF but it seems to be something with the independent rear set up and how the toe works on it. The factory designs this rear end to toe in as you shift the weight to the rear I think that is part of the issue
I'm looking at putting together a 95 Cougar for my local track. Almost identical setup to the t-bird but this one has the 8.8 IRS. Just wondering how you find the car and if it's a viable, competitive chassis?
This is a competitive chassis. You do need to work a few things out. The lug pateren is not common but you can replace the hubs with mustange hubs as they are 4.5" Bolt Circle. you need to make sure you support the upper strut mounts very well and you should cut as much weight out of the K-member as posible if you need more info contact me. We did improve the center with a toe adjustment on the rear and droped the stagger to 2.5" I think it is still a little much. we also dropped to 360lbs RR spring. our cross the last time we raced was 33.5%
HelloI also run this chassisYour springs are mush higher than mine.I race on a 1/2 semi flat D shaped Asphalt oval.I run both front & rear bars.My car pushes with the rear bar disconnected.Slightly loose connected.(Mostly due to old tires)I run a 1 3/8in solid front bar & .90 solid rear barI run 450LF & 550RF, 350LR & stockRRthis is with used 15" DOT 70's tiresWhat front shocks are you running? You can swap the front hubs & rotors with 92+ Mustang. You will need 94+ T-bird Spindles & sway bar end links. I am getting the rear hubs redrilled, Cheaper than Mustang rear Hubs.I run a 351W,2bbl. AOD & 3.90 open rear gear.3550lbs, 51%left side. 45% cross.Numbers not exact due to last seasons weather trouble.I am currently a mid pack finisher. Mostly due to nonraceing front shocks & overheating engine problems.Paul
sounds like y'all need to fab a different rear sway to make the setup work! Or maybe just relocate the brackets so your fuel cell can be low enough. Just a thought!

Hello PolarryWhat year T-bird?I have a 90. tried a spring setup similar but pushed too badly.Going to try a BBSS setup this season.1 3/8in front sway bar.275 & 300 up front.295 & 600 in back.1in rear bar.Paul
do these 85 to 95 t-birds not have the same rear suspension as a mustang?can you not build them up same as a mustang mini stock only a little heavier spring rate?
121-murc no not even close the 85-93 mustang has a solid reat axel. the T-bird, Cougar and Mark VIII has an independent rear suspension. And that changes everything about the set up
