Bret Moyer Wins DTRA Feature and First Crate Engine Feature Win in DTRA
Ankeny, Iowa (May 9, 2008) – Bret Moyer piloting his #98 DTRA truck, scored his first feature win of the 2008 race season at the Iowa State Fair Speedway. Moyer, a multi time DTRA National Champion will also put his name in the record book as the first ever DTRA competitor to win a feature event in the truck series utilizing a GM Performance Parts 604 Crate Engine. Moyer started the night with a win in his 8 lap heat race, based on point averages Moyer would start the 15 lap A Feature from outside the second row. Moving into the second spot on lap one, Moyer and fellow DTRA driver, Rick Clark would race hard for the next 14 laps. Moyer was able to make a lap 14 pass on Clark however, the race was not over. Clark charged hard coming out of turn four on the last lap but, Moyer was able to nose Clark at the line for his first feature win of the season. The Moyer - Clark finish was a fan thriller and had to be one of the closest finishes in DTRA history. Clark was followed by Tony Moro for third with Ed Nelson and Mike Todd rounding out the top five.
In 2007 DTRA Board members voted to include the GM Performance Parts crate engines in competition. The 604 crate engine is a 350 cubic inch – 400 horse power engine that is sealed at the factory, preventing expensive modifications to the racing power plant. The 604 crate engine has been proven in past years in ASA Late Model Series racing and in Crate Dirt Late Model racing that is prevalent in the southeastern states. In 2007 IMCA also sanctioned the GM Performance Parts 604 Crate Engine in their Crate Model division bringing more crate engine racing exposure to the Midwest.
Moyer is one of four DTRA truck competing with the GM Performance Parts 604 Crate Engines and for his efforts he will receive a $100 “Award Certificate” from DTRA Title Sponsor, Karl Chevrolet. Other DTRA drivers who currently compete with the Crate Engine and qualify for the contingency awards are Carl Moyer - #3, Tony Moro - #2T and Matt Moro #2M.
In addition to their DTRA contingency and Title Sponsorship, Karl Chevrolet currently offers all competitors who win a feature event using a GM Performance Parts 602 or 604 Crate Engine purchased through Karl Chevrolet, the $100 contingency “Award Certificate”.
Karl Chevrolet is one of the leading suppliers in the country for GM Performance Parts and GM Performance Parts Crate Engines used by sanctioning bodies, racing organizations and independent race tracks across the country. These durable, economical engines are built and sealed at the factory by General Motors to prevent any expensive modifications. GM Performance Parts 602 and 604 crate engines continue to provide the necessary power and reliability to take championship caliber drivers to victory lane.
