I ran across this website and I am hoping there is someone out there can has some knowlegde of racing figure 8 cars on an asphault track. The car is pretty much set up other than we are struggling with the car being loose pretty much everywhere. I have tried a couple of different things like dropping tire pressure but that is not doing the job my next guess would be to put lighter springs in the rear.

Any ideas?

First of what king of car do you have? Next, what spring rates are you running right now? Then, what wheel offset are you running? Do you know what your caster and camber and toe-in is set at?

Heres what I have...
1978 Impalla
1100 rate in the front springs
200 rate on the rear springs
camber is apx. -4 deg (leaning in as far as I can go)
caster the uper ball joint is about 1/8 inch behind the lower ball joint
3" offset wheels on hoosier tires (4" is better but all I have)
tire pressure...
LF 28    RF 30
LR 26    RR 28

If your runing a camaro or simalar then go lighter on the springs. 950 front and 175 or even 150 on the rear.

Just a starting point. nothing in racing is written in stone. 2 drivers with the same exact same car will set them up different.

Let me know what you come upi with...

Where's this asphalt figure 8 track at? I raced the figure 8 on dirt in Watsonville, CA. What type of cars?

I have had a ton of experience with figure-8 cars from the bottom of the barrel pure stocks(called dromers here) to a few years in the world figure-8 championship in Indy with outlaws(EXTREEME late model). As mentioned earlier we need more info about the car, and track. But one thing that makes a bigger difference in an 8 car is the differential, more than any other type car.

So check your diffs, ask around at the track, and give us some more info and we'll see what we can do.
