You shouldn't need to be in 3rd gear. Check your tach.

research honda engine/transmission combos, you could POSSIBLY find another transmission that would fit with taller gears. It's a long shot but ???? Use the tallest tires possible to get more out of 2nd, or, if you already are, try going shorter to help 3rd gear.We once ran a 2002 civic w/1700 v-tech,(our track is 3/8 mi. hi-bank clay) it wouldn't keep up running up high, but was a total beast on the bottom of the track! Anything you can do to open up airflow through to the head will slightly improve the top end also. Good luck

the easiest and cheapest way to fix your problem is run a taller tire. i had that same problem last year with my acura integra. and all i did was switch the tire size and it took care of it. the other thing you can do is chip the computer and when you get it tuned raise the rev limiter. a stock honda can usually turn about 7800 all day long with no problems.
