Should NASCAR just eliminate the restrictor plates, instead decreasing engine displacement at Talledega and Daytona to 305 cubic inches?

No. It cheaper for the teams to use the plate rather than build special engines for two tracks.

Gotta disagree with you there, the teams already build special engines for those two tracks. You look at the parts that go into the motors for Talledega and Daytona, they're very different from the motors for all the other tracks.
