Yeah i run a 350 SB with a smaller flywheel.  We run a starter from a 82 or 84 vette.

I am currently running a 153 tooth flexplate(small one) and the problem occurred that the stock starter would not turn the motor once it was at operating temp. I purchased a gear ruducted stock appearing starter off E-bay for the same money as the stock starter. since then I have not had any problems what so ever.

there are tons of cheap gear reduction sarters that fit either flexplate/flywheel combination, the added bonus in the weigh nothing in comparison to the original starters and give more exhaust clearance(you can actually reclock the position of the starter to mounting block)
